# Automotive NVH Foam – What Is It, and How Does It Work?

Performance is critical for automotives – but so is comfort. A noisy vehicle isn’t just annoying – it can be dangerously distracting for the operator. This type of noise is called **NVH**, and can be mitigated with the use of **automotive NVH foam.**
## What is NVH?
Noise, vibration, and harshness is a term used to determine how much noise vehicles emit while they’re running. NVH can be **internal** and heard/felt by people in the cabin as well as **external** where it’s heard/felt by people outside the vehicle.

**Automotive NVH foam refers to foam materials that are designed to mitigate the effects of NVH.** NVH in automotives generally comes from the mechanical and electrical systems within the vehicle, which are necessary operations.
