Kiss cutting is a key manufacturing operation. But what is it, and when do you use it?
What is a Kiss Cut?
Kiss cutting is the process of cutting layers of material so that the top layer(s) are cut, but the back remains intact. Most often, this is used to create a roll of parts, where employees can then peel parts from a backing and use as-is.
When to Use Kiss Cutting
Kiss cutting is ideal for applications where the same part will be used repeatedly, and the part is relatively thin. Most often, we see this used for gaskets, labels, and adhesives – creating a roll where these parts can be peeled and used instantly makes the assembly process much easier.
Kiss Cutting with Industrial Custom Products
ICP can die cut a wide variety of non-metallic or flexible materials. We have the ability to die cut plastic up to 3/16″ thick. With our experience, we help select the right tool for the job.
We offer inexpensive tooling options like steel rule dies while also having the ability to run forged and match-metal tooling for tougher materials and tighter tolerances. We also house the latest technology in precision die cutting machinery.
