Material selection for gasketing and sealing applications is crucial for ensuring protection, particularly under repeat compression and water exposure.
Silicones can be a fantastic choice for these applications since they are resistant to temperatures and have a low compression set. This means two things: it’s going to keep stuff out, while staying in place.
At ICP, we routinely die cut gaskets and seals to meet the highest performance standards.

Silicone Selection Guide
One of the main suppliers of silicone is Rogers Corporation. The silicones are ideal for sealing applications because they are:
- Resistant to temperature extremes, UV and ozone
- Extremely resilient to mechanical fatigue
- Excellent compression set and creep resistance
- Compliance with the most stringent UL flame ratings
- Manufactured in an AS-9100 ISO-9001:2000 certified facility
There are four primary categories of silicones to choose from, that we recommend for sealing applications:
Cellular Silicone Foams
- UL94 V-0 and HF1 certification rated for flame resistance
- Wide compression force range
- Low compression set under high temperatures
- Temperature range from -55°C to + 200°C (-65°F to +400°F)
Specialty Cellular Foams
- Cellular foams cast onto high performance substrates
- Capable of heat reflection and direct contact with heat source
Sponge Silicones
- Meet BMS 1-23 and BMS 1-60 specifications
- General purpose, durable materials for tough environments
Solid Silicones
- Grades suitable for acoustic barriers
- Available durometer range of 10 to 70
- Electrically conductive
Additional Applications for Silicone
We’ve focused on gaskets and seals made of silicone, but there are other applications in manufacturing for silicone:
- Cushioning
- Shock absorption
- Sound blocking/absorption
- Vibration management
- Thermal solutions
